Vessel emissions

Overview

Vessel traffic is often the most important source of emissions in a port. The data for vessel emission calculation include port call information (from PMIS or AIS data, for example) and background information on various technical aspects of vessels and the port in question.

You can see the visualisation of trends in the current and previous years in the first graph, and compare the emissions by different variables (terminal, vessel type, activity) in the next graphs. You can also choose the time interval you wish to investigate. You can also export the emission calculation results in spreadsheet from the three dots in upper right corner.

Note that the date is automatically chosen to be the current year. If you don't yet have data for that period, the graph is empty.

Vessels' technical data

The calculation uses the most exact information available on the vessel. For example, if the engine power of a certain vessel is known in the database, that will be used; if the information is missing, the system uses the average engine power of that vessel type. The technical information of vessels can be seen and modified in the "Vessels" tab. After saving the changes, you can recalculate the results using the renewed parameters by clicking "Calculate" button in the upper right corner (remember to choose the right year for recalculation).

Port calls

Port call data can be imported manually from spreadsheets or via an integration to PMIS or AIS systems. From the tabs "Port calls" and "AIS Port Calls" you can see the port calls used in the calculation. From "Port Calls" tab you can also manually add or delete port calls, if they are missing or you find a erroneus port call. After saving the changes, you can recalculate the results using the renewed parameters by clicking "Calculate" button in the upper right corner (remember to choose the right year for recalculation).
